Many thanks for calling in at The Quiz Bus.

The Quiz Bus is a fresh approach to the world of quizzes and quizzing. We're all keen enthusiasts here and just love to take part in various quizzes, from those in the local pub to large-scale events involving a hundred entrants or more.

We're also equally at home producing and running quizzes in a range of styles and formats to fit the venue or organising group's needs.  

The Quiz Bus is our way of sharing our interests with others - and also, seeing what we can do to help you should you wish to organise your own events.

Experiences

Our driving force is very much that whilst everyone taking part (or running a quiz) wants to have fun, there is a competitive element to it as well - and it's vital that the balance between the two truly suits the venue and the participants.

How often have you taken part in a quiz that was poorly organised and just didn't do it for you? We've been to a few like that. Often, questions have been bought in from some of the large on-line quiz companies: nothing wrong in that, but you do need to take care with what you get:

• Do you sift the questions to make sure that they're right for your group?
• Are there questions in there which don't fit? Or poorly written? Or just plain wrong?
• Is there a good mix of question styles and formats to maintain interest?

Too often, question banks get e-mailed out and they've not been checked for accuracy, or currency or - sometimes - ambiguity.

To the Quiz organiser on the day, you should be able to rely on your material - especially when there might be challenges from keen and competitive participants. We can all handle the odd such situation, but if it happens more than once, then the integrity of the quiz gets undermined.

And that's the last thing you want, particularly when there may be prizes at stake too!

Great Quizzes

There are many great quizzes too!

Generally, they tend to be at venues - chiefly pubs or clubs - where the owners care about the event and want to make it a success. It isn't just about getting more customers in to buy drinks (although that's a happy by-product!) but also about providing the right ambience and atmosphere for all concerned.

Other common factors for great quizzes include:

• Hosts who are confident with their material and show empathy towards their participants
• A good mixture of materials - different types of rounds, questions and formats
• Good handouts - making it easy for folk to take part and have fun
• Prizes that can be won by lots of different teams

There's nothing like a lively and busy quiz to help you have a great night out.

Occupational Hazards?

There are - of course - obstacles that sometimes get in the way of putting on or going to a great quiz.

Firstly, there's no getting round it, they can be time-consuming to prepare, especially if you're running them on a weekly basis.

Secondly, enthusiasm can sometimes wane when it dawns on you that creating fresh, new questions each week becomes more difficult as the weeks go by.

And finally, it can sometimes be a thankless task, especially if participant numbers vary from week to week.

• How many sets of materials do you prepare?
• What sort of prizes can be offered?
• What sort of PA equipment have you got?

Having said all of that, we wouldn't do it if we didn't enjoy it!

This is our bespoke service, tailored to fit your needs.

We've hosted quizzes on behalf of companies and businesses (as social events and team-building exercises!), pubs and clubs and also local societies.
