CLUB 31 IS VERWOOD'S WORLD CUP VENUE
NEW CLUB FEATURES THE BIGGEST SCREEN IN TOWN
The management committee at Verwood's Club 31 seem all set for an action-packed World Cup tournament. With a massive 72" inch screen, top-quality surround sound and space for 150 fans, all the latest South African football action will be beamed straight into the centre of Verwood. "The timing couldn't be better!" said Brian Giddings, Club 31's chair. "We've just taken on the running of the Club and have the massive excitement of World Cup football to bring the fans in and show them what a magnificent facility Verwood now has." With special World Cup meals and snacks, the cheapest drinks prices in town - and competitions galore - the new committee are hoping that World Cup football will be a big draw.
Operations Manager Alan Dorey added that "We've already taken on 350 new members this past week - we're on target to get to at least a 1000 before the summer is out - and with a fair wind, 2000 by the year-end. We've got a lot of work to do, but our gallant band of volunteers are up for it - and with the World Cup and the exciting new ideas and changes we're bringing to Club 31, it's going to be an amazing few weeks"
The World Cup opening ceremony and first games are this Friday, June 11th - and England's first test comes the next day, Saturday 12th, with a match against the under-rated USA.
